Final day of the festival 2022

 Percussion, percussion and everywhere percussion

Uncountable numbers of percussion instruments on stage and an impressive amount of percussion students of all ages and from different parts of Venezuela.

That is what you can call percussive impact!

Gracias Funda musical and Acuarius Zambrano, director.

Teaching the teachers

The teachers in all the nucleos around the country are very important of course, for the whole development within El Sistemas orchestral work. In one master class Roger met with the teachers, discussed challenges and suggested methods and ideas for progression.

The importance of step-by-step and making music together in smaller groups was emphasized. Learning, listening and adjusting in the early stage of ensemble playing.

The teachers are receptive and wants to develop in order to be good role models for their students.

Orchestra and solo percussion

Four percussion concertos in one concert

Together with the Orquesta Sinfónica Juan José Landaeta Roger performed four pieces for percussion and orchestra.

The soloists were amazing and the orchestra was at a good level. Their development in balance and expression in these contemporary pieces was very promising.

Master classes

The necessity of good technique and sound

Roger´s focus for the master classes was emphasis on good technique and stick control.

First day all the students, of different ages, came to play the methods of Jacques Delécluse. After working with details and other examples of etudes and methods, the next day the students came prepared with Morris Goldenberg, Anthony Cirone and Bent Lylloff. One student even presented Askell Massons Prim.

The classes came to be a challenge for the students and great development in their playing.

Another focus for the master classes was the importance of controlled sound on all the different instruments. Improvement of sound, character and controlled volume was exemplified in various orchestral excerpts.

Catatombo

Catatombo - percussion ensemble

This ensemble is an example of the new generation of percussionists in Venezuela. They have come a long way since last time we worked together. So talented, ambitious, curious and eager to learn. Their openness to new repertoir and chamber music is impressive.

We are back!

After two and a half years of closed societies due to the Corona pandemic, we are finally able to come back to Venezuela and the wonderful family of El Sistema. The activities within Funda musical opened up only a few months ago. And here we are. Vaccinated, tested both on departure and arrival. Trying to contribute to Maestro Jose Antonio Abreus against-all-odds-on-going project for the children and musicians of Venezuela.

Once again we are here for the percussion festival and Roger will be teaching, coaching and conducting during 10 days.
