Nucleo Los Chorros

In a building that used to be a prison for children (!) there is now a Nucleo for 1200 kids. The director Lennar, who used to be a prisoner there himself, guided us through the very well organized music school. 

First the chorus performed some classical and Venezuelan pieces. Then the 4-5 year olds sang and showed us movements of the songs. Paper instruments, made by the children together with their parents, stood waiting for the three year old children to come again. The special kids, with special conditions and needs, performed in an ensemble with cuatro, guitar, flutes and percussion. Finally the Symphony Orchestra played for us, one movement from Tchaikovsky second Symphony! 

In this Nucleo they also have created workshops for instrument repair. Lennar, who also is a trained organ builder, is now serving all nucleos in Caracas with repair of string, wind and brass instruments.
